Our Power Systems Engineering team utilizes their deep knowledge of connected power grid planning, design, operation, and life-cycle management, to offer customized solutions to our global clients. Our Power Economics team offers analyses focused on the understanding and the study of the financial and physical operation of the electric power systems including generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, competitive power markets and energy policy implications. The Senior Software Engineer – Power Systems Short-Circuit Analysis Expert will assist in developing/designing short-circuit analysis module. These new analytic tools will leverage the existing functionality of GE’s Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF) software. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development and a deep understanding of power systems engineering principles, particularly in the area of short circuit analysis. Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Design and develop software modules for short circuit analysis in power systems, including algorithms, data models, and user interfaces
Cognizant of various standards like IEC 60909, IEC 61363, IEEE 141/IEEE 551/ANSI C37, and G74 along with their norms and methodologies
Collaborate with power systems engineers and domain experts to understand requirements and translate them into software solutions
Implement efficient and scalable algorithms for analyzing short circuit data and predicting system behavior under fault conditions
With growing penetration of high IBR (inverter based resources) on the grid, advanced WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) and converter short circuit models should be developed
Test and validate software modules to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Document software design, implementation, and testing processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Stay current with advancements in software development methodologies, tools, and technologies, as well as trends in power systems engineering.
Provide software support for the short-circuit analysis tool to internal and external customers
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college or university
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Software Development, Power Systems Analysis, or the Energy Industry with focus on power systems modeling, power flow analysis, short-circuit and fault analysis
Demonstrated knowledge of Algorithm development
Demonstrated knowledge of bulk electric system planning and protection
Desired Characteristics
Demonstrated knowledge of power systems modeling, power flow analysis and dynamics, numerical solution methods, continuation power flow and sparsity techniques
Strong understanding of power systems engineering principles, particularly in the area of short circuit analysis.
Experience with power systems analysis software such as PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PowerFactory or PSS/E is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated software development skills in modern object-oriented languages (at least one of C#, Java, or Python)
Experience working with large datasets and Hierarchical Data Format (HDF)
Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Experience with software build process, unit testing, and software QA
Experience with Mercurial, GIT, or other distributed revision control software and developing engineering software tools
Self-starter with the ability to lead development projects
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Masters / PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
