The Project Kuiper team is looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager with experience in mechanical systems and mechanisms development. The role will interface with cross-functional engineering and program/product management teams to develop flight hardware paired with software for integration into the Kuiper system. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that haven’t been solved at scale before! Key job responsibilities

Collaborate with engineering leaders to create project plans for space hardware and software through the entire development life cycle – requirements to development to validation in an agile development environment.

Work with product/program management to ensure that structures and mechanisms development meets schedule, cost, and quality requirements.

Drive engineering project execution, make technical trade-offs, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues.

Collaborate with architecture, hardware, software, and manufacturing teams on ensuring cross-functional deliverables are identified and tracked.

Act as the point of contact for Kuiper satellite mechanical hardware teams and work with external teams to identify and mitigate programmatic risks in meeting shared goals

Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on the plans, status, and critical issues. Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner.

Assist with vendor management, and vendor deliveries.

Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing design teams on program milestones and unblock technical issues by pulling together the multi-functional technical expertise to resolve the issues

Participate in technical discussions, ask probing questions, and work with the team to pull together scoping, schedules, and solutions to issues

Drive postmortem learning and improvements over time

Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years of hardware, software, system integration and test development of complex systems across the full product life cycle – concept to production.

  • 4+ years of experience in a technical lead, systems engineer, or technical program management role with significant experience architecting and integrating HW and SW into a complex system.

  • 4+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams delivering products on schedule.

  • Proficiency with at least one schedule tracking tools such as MS Project, SmartSheet or alternative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with high volume manufacturing test methods, concepts and solutions.

  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trades.

  • Experience in high speed characterization of devices, operation of high speed and high frequency test equipment, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and high-speed oscilloscopes.

  • Experience developing high-performance systems for aerospace applications or systems operating in extreme environments.

  • Experience in automated testing and system characterization.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Track record of successfully delivering complete systems (hardware, firmware, software) on time, to scope, with high quality.

  • Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization.

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.

  • High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
