Position Summary: 

Join the pack at the JP! Wolfspeed’s Wafer Operations team is seeking Equipment Maintenance Technicians to join our team. A successful Equipment Maintenance Technician will have the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges in support of our Wafer Operations area. In this role you will perform corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance tasks on semiconductor tools designed to improve/sustain equipment availability, reliability, and maintainability.  
 

This posting is for a position that will directly support operations at the John Palmour Manufacturing Center for Silicon Carbide, our expansion site in Siler City, NC. The person in this role will train at our Durham, NC headquarters initially. 
 

The person in this position will work a 12-hr shift on one of our Day Shift schedules:

  • Front End Days: Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and every other Wednesday
  • Back End Days: Every other Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 

 

The Day-to-Day: 

  • Utilize troubleshooting skills to solve non-routine and complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment problems 

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on equipment (i.e. cleaning, calibration, or routine service) 

  • Dismantle, adjust, repair, and assemble equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manuals, rough sketches or drawings 

  • Use test and diagnostic equipment to perform checks 

  • Rebuild manufacturing equipment as required 

  • Complete work orders assigned and document all job details and findings  

  • Perform all job tasks according to job safety guidelines 

  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management systems for inventory control and work scheduling 

  • Handle gases and chemicals to replenish system resources 

  • Participate in continuous improvement teams 

  • Analyze preventative maintenance findings and make recommendations 

  • Provide communication to all support team members by following proper escalation procedures 

  • Work with equipment and process engineers to understand process-equipment interactions and limitations relative to operating specifications 

  • Write work procedure 

  • Train entry level technicians 

  • Participate in candidate interviews and provide feedback 

  • Requires no supervision or guidance on routine tasks and receives general instructions on new assignments 
     

This Job is Right for You if You Have (Required Qualifications): 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent 

  • 5+ years of mechanical or electrical experience (ie. HVAC, automotive) or equivalent military experience 

  • Strong manual dexterity and hands-on mechanical aptitude  

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems 

  • Ability and desire to learn new fields of discipline 

  • Proven computer proficiency 

  • Ability to use MS Office Suite, SAP/Oracle, MES systems  

  • A collaborative, team player mentality with positive attitude 

  • Basic time management skills 

  • Ability to work 12 hours shifts in a fast-paced environment 

  • Flexibility in your work schedule and the ability to work overtime on short notice 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to prioritize tasks 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent military experience 

  • Manufacturing experience, preferably within the semiconductor industry 

  • Coached, mentored and trained peers 

  • Created documentation including SOPs, OCAPs, troubleshooting guides, etc.  

 
Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to lift 50lbs to chest height 

  • Ability to push/pull 50lbs 

  • Ability to stand for >8 hours a shift 

  • Ability to periodically kneel and bend 

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs 
     

This role may require additional duties and/or assignments as designated by management.
